Associate Software Developer
Summary
Associate (junior) backend developer role focused on AI assistants at a cloud communications company. Day to day: build and maintain backend services and REST APIs, integrate LLMs, enterprise data and workflow automation into customer-facing products, and add validation/monitoring for AI features. Stack: backend languages, SQL, Git, cloud/AI tooling.

While primarily remote, this role requires occasional visits to the office in Coimbra or in Aveiro. We plan to open an office in Porto in the future. This approach gives team members the flexibility to work remotely while also coming together in the office for collaboration and teamwork.
About the Role
We are looking for an Associate Software Developer to join our engineering organization.
This is an excellent opportunity to build backend applications and services while gaining practical experience. You will work alongside experienced engineers to develop secure, reliable and maintainable features for our customer-facing platforms.
- Develop, test and maintain backend services.
- Help integrate enterprise data, APIs and workflow automation into customer-facing products.
- Build and maintain REST APIs and integrations with internal and external systems.
- Write readable, maintainable and testable code that follows established engineering standards.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, troubleshooting and technical discussions with support from experienced engineers.
- Collaborate with product, UX, data, security, QA and platform teams to develop and release new features.
- Investigate and resolve issues across backend services, APIs, databases and integrations.
- Continue developing your knowledge of backend engineering and cloud technology.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Good knowledge of one or more backend programming languages and associated frameworks.
- A foundational understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures and software design principles.
- Some experience developing or consuming REST APIs.
- Knowledge of relational databases and SQL; experience with Microsoft SQL Server would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with testing, source control tools such as Git and collaborative software development practices.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to ask questions and learn from feedback.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- An interest in workflow automation.
- Familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript and a framework such as React or Angular would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with Agile development, CI/CD, cloud platforms or DevOps practices would also be beneficial.
