As an Associate Software Engineer at Genesys you will help design, develop, and maintain high-throughput backend services in Java, deployed on AWS infrastructure, serving millions of interactions daily.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with experienced engineers in the team to design, and evolve existing Java microservices
  • Collaborate with your team through code reviews, pair programming, and technical discussions to deliver high-quality software
  • Write clean, testable code with appropriate unit and integration test coverage
  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, contributing to on‑call rotations as you grow in the role
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code to support reliable, repeatable deployments
  • Document your work clearly so that teammates and future engineers can build on it
  • Engage with cross‑functional teams (product, UX, SRE) to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet real user needs

What We're Looking For

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Foundational knowledge of Java and object‑oriented programming principles
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, HTTP, and common web service patterns
  • A growth mindset — you're energised by learning, seek feedback, and treat challenges as opportunities to improve
  • Strong communication skills — you can explain your thinking clearly, ask good questions, and contribute constructively in team discussions
  • Logical and imaginative problem solving — you can break down complex problems methodically while also thinking creatively about solutions
  • Genuine enthusiasm for learning new technologies, tools, and approaches
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment where ideas are shared openly

Desirable Experience Or Appetite To Learn

  • Awareness of software design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean architecture concepts
  • Experience with or interest in AWS cloud
  • Familiarity with event‑driven or message‑driven architectures (Kafka, SQS/SNS)
  • Understanding of basic observability — logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CodePipeline) or eagerness to learn them
