Associate Software Engineer – Web Scraping
Summary
An associate engineer writes production-quality Python web scrapers for SEON's fraud-data collection platform, working across proxy rotation, queues and enrichment APIs while debugging with logging/monitoring tools and building SRE skills around CI/CD and observability.
- Writing production-quality, well-tested scraper code in Python
- Learning the architecture of the collection platform including scrapers, proxy layer, queues and enrichment API
- Debugging issues across multiple components using logging, monitoring and alerting tools
- Working with proxy infrastructure including selection, rotation and recovery from blocks
- Participating in incident response and documenting findings
- Building depth in reliability engineering including SRE practices, resilience patterns and observability platforms
- Delivering work at a steady, predictable pace with minimal back-and-forth on requirements
- Understanding and automating the build, test and deployment pipeline
- Using AI coding assistant regularly and experimenting with prompts and tooling
- Participating in code review and helping onboard newer teammates
- Around 1–2 years of professional software engineering experience or strong portfolio of internships, personal projects or open-source work
- Solid Python programming skills
- Some hands-on exposure to web scraping or automated data collection
- Working understanding of HTTP and networking fundamentals including requests, responses, headers, status codes, TLS and proxies
- Comfort writing tests and working in a code-review culture with Git
- Basic comfort with Docker and willingness to learn Kubernetes
- Regular use of at least one AI coding assistant
- Habit of reading release notes, docs and engineering blogs and asking about unfamiliar patterns
- Realistic self-assessment on timelines and proactive communication of blockers
- Ownership of outcomes and surfacing problems and mistakes early
- Willingness to argue for the customer's perspective
- Openness to picking up Java/Spring
- Strong collaboration and communication skills in English
- Exposure to scraping or browser automation tooling such as Playwright, Selenium, Puppeteer, Scrapy or low-level HTTP clients
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, or infrastructure as code
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana or InfluxDB
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, especially GitHub Actions
- Experience with Elasticsearch, Redis or DynamoDB
- Interest in fraud prevention, trust and safety or domains where data freshness is a product requirement
