Summary

Develops and designs residential HVAC systems and subsystems — thermodynamic and electro-mechanical components, thermal modeling, component qualification, and prototype testing — plus troubleshooting and root-cause resolution. Core fundamentals are thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics, with modeling tools like MATLAB, Modelica, or Python.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and design residential HVAC systems and subsystems, including thermodynamic and electro-mechanical components
  • Evaluate and qualify HVAC components in accordance with reliability and performance standards
  • Develop and validate thermal models to support system performance and design decisions
  • Collaborate with lab technicians to build prototypes and support system testing (performance, reliability, and regulatory)
  • Troubleshoot complex HVAC system issues and drive root-cause analysis and resolution
  • Partner with design and engineering teams to translate requirements into components, subsystems, and finished products
  • Support system-level analysis across the product lifecycle (design, testing, manufacturing, and operation)
  • Evaluate systems for manufacturability, reliability, and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Contribute to multiple projects, owning small projects or key technical deliverables

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical, Chemical, Engineering degree
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
  • Knowledge of HVAC system architecture, controls, and electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience with engineering problem-solving, troubleshooting, and data analysis
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced product development environment
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Experience in HVAC systems or related thermal/mechanical product development
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering principles and testing methodologies
  • Experience with system modeling tools (MATLAB, Modelica, Python)
  • Familiarity with design of experiments (DOE) and data analysis technique
  • Experience working with lab environments, prototype builds, and validation testing
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
