Associate Test Engineer (Materials Testing Laboratory)

Summary

Conducts materials and mechanical testing in a lab, interprets standards, coordinates with technicians, and ensures compliance with quality procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Interpret work orders, including sample specifications, applicable test standards, and acceptance criteria to ensure clear understanding of testing requirements.
  • Prepare draft reports and testing instructions to facilitate smooth test execution.
  • Develop technical competency across mechanical testing, chemical testing, and metallurgical testing through structured on-the-job training and practical laboratory experience.
  • Coordinate with technicians to ensure proper understanding and execution of assigned testing activities.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely completion.
  • Assist in engaging customers to understand testing requirements and provide basic clarifications where required.
  • Participate in laboratory quality activities, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and verification processes.
  • Support test execution during peak periods, ensuring adherence to procedures and proper documentation of results.
  • Record and compile test data accurately and highlight any irregularities or concerns to senior engineers.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices, including housekeeping, safety, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Participate in cross-training initiatives to build competency across different testing techniques.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, QA/QC, or laboratory environments. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

  • Basic understanding of engineering testing concepts, exposure to metals and materials testing is an advantage.

  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 is an added advantage but not compulsory.

  • Responsible and reliable, with the ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and follow through to completion.

  • Willing to learn and adapt across different testing areas in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Good analytical thinking, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a structured manner and perform in a fast-paced environment.

  • Good communication skills and a positive, customer-oriented attitude.
