The Associate Vice President (AVP) of Health for Finance, Strategy, and Business Development serves as the financial, strategic, and business architect for the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) and the broader GW Health enterprise. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of SHMS with a matrixed reporting line to the university CFO, the AVP provides strategic financial leadership, oversees business development initiatives, and ensures multi-year financial sustainability across clinical, academic, and research endeavors.
Working in conjunction with Senior Associate Deans, the AVP drives the translation of GW and SMHS strategic objectives into actionable programmatic, financial, and operational plans for short- and long-term success. The role ensures total organizational alignment between strategic and operational needs across school-wide administration, finance, HR, IT, and facilities, while emphasizing maximal efficiency, cost containment, and operational effectiveness.

- **Growth & Monetization Strategy:** Develop robust pro formas and business plans for new academic and clinical programs, as well as the monetization of existing institutional assets.
- **Partnership & Agreement Tracking:** Oversee and track key recurring milestone events, financial commitments, and operational deliverables under the GW / Universal Health Services (UHS) agreements, joint venture entities, and clinical practice arrangements.
**2. Financial Management & Integrated Planning**

- **Integrated Strategic Financial Plan (ISFP):** Create, refine, and manage the multi-year, integrated strategic and financial plan (ISFP) aligning clinical, academic, and research priorities with long-term capital and operating models.
- **University Finance Integration:** Serve as the financial liaison between SMHS and central GW Finance, ensuring transparency, compliance, alignment with university-wide budget frameworks, and seamless execution on joint fiscal initiatives that link financial strategy to core academic missions.
**3. Operational Alignment & Functional Governance**
- **Cross-Functional Alignment:** Ensure seamless alignment between overarching strategic priorities and daily operational execution across key administrative pillars:
- Administrative Services
- Finance and Accounting

- **Direct Operations Leadership:** Provide direct leadership and oversight to internal department teams across Finance, Operations, and Administration.
- **Matrixed Functional Alignment:** Provide strategic direction to embedded matrixed partners across Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications, and Development/Advancement to ensure integrated service delivery.
This position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC, and requires regular on-site work as a fully in-person role. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

- **Dotted-Line / Matrixed Teams:** Embedded leads across Human Resources, Information Technology, Communications, and Development/Advancement.
