Job Summary

The Athletic Trainer is a member of the Health Services and Athletics departments providing services for the management and provision of care of injuries for the students of Gould Academy. They are responsible for rendering responsive emergency care, developing injury prevention programs, and providing appropriate preventative and devices for the physically active person. Duties included, but not limited to, budget and athletic trainer space management and concussion protocol management.

The Athletic Trainer promotes a strong student-centered approach that exemplifies a respectful, inclusive, and dynamic environment. Adolescents under their guidance are empowered with agency, supported within a structured framework, and mentored for growth and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Athletic Trainer

Athletic Health Care Coordination

  • Coordinate with the Director of Health Services to ensure athletes have access to athletic health care.
  • Collaborate with and support the Summer Programs Coordiantor to ensure camp coverage is scheduled.

Program Administration

  • Manage athletic training facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Develop and monitor the athletic training budget in collaboration with the Director of Health Services.
  • Maintain inventory and oversee purchasing of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable healthcare, safety, privacy, and recordkeeping standards.
  • Stay current with best practices through continuing education and professional development and uphold the standards of HIPPA and FERPA.

Event Coverage and Accessibility

  • Establish availability times and locations for student care support.
  • Provide on-site coverage at home games and events.
  • Be available for consultation with the Nurse on Duty, if not in the training room during the posted times.

Athletic Injury Management and Rehabilitation

  • Assess, manage, provide treatment, and rehabilitate physically active individuals within the scope of a certified athletic trainer's education.
  • Use modalities such as mechanical stimulation, heat, cold, light, air, water, electricity, ultrasound, and massage.
  • Implement and advise on therapeutic exercises, reconditioning exercises, and fitness programs for adolescent students.

Event Planning and Record Keeping

  • Develop plans for providing athletic health care at interscholastic athletic events.
  • Maintain adequate medical quality records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures in an electronic medical record.
  • Comply with all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by Gould Academy and Health Services Procedures Manual.
  • Abide by industry confidentiality standards regarding private medical information and student care records

Injury Prevention and Immediate Care

  • Provide immediate care of athletic injuries and refer athletes to medical facilities when necessary.
  • Provide for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps, and braces, and assist in the design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury.

Concussion Management

  • Assess, monitor, refer, and follow up athletes suspected of sustaining concussions or other traumatic brain injuries, and document such actions.
  • Lead athletic-based concussion management protocols, including baseline testing, monitoring, return-to-learn, and return-to-play procedures in partnership with the Director of Health Services.


Summer Camp Management

  • Support summer camp athletic training requirements as needed based on the camp schedule.

Community Life Role

  • During winter sports season, serve on a community life team one night a week and on a weekend duty crew
  • Communicate and seek to reduce scheduling conflicts

Professionalism

  • Attendance and participation in team and community meetings, special events, school functions, and maintenance of prompt and frequent communication with advisors and employees
