Atlassian Cloud Migration Engineer (ZenHub to Jira Cloud Migration)
Summary
Experienced migration engineer to move a client's project tracking from ZenHub (on GitHub) to Jira Cloud, owning the full move: mapping data, writing Python automation against ZenHub, GitHub and Jira Cloud APIs, running and reconciling trial migrations, and executing the final cutover. Based in Calabasas, CA.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced migration specialist to move a client’s project tracking from ZenHub (on GitHub) to Jira Cloud. You must have done a ZenHub-to-Jira Cloud migration before. You’ll own the whole move: mapping the data, writing the automation, checking that everything came across, and cutting over, with little ramp-up time.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the current ZenHub and GitHub setup: workspaces, repos, epics, issues, estimates, releases, pipelines and dependencies.
- Design how that data maps onto Jira Cloud projects, issue types, workflows, custom fields, boards and sprints.
- Build Python scripts that pull data from the ZenHub and GitHub APIs and load it into Jira Cloud.
- Use the Jira Cloud REST APIs and MCP integrations to create issues and links in bulk, update them, and check the results.
- Use GitHub Copilot to speed up writing, testing and refactoring the migration scripts.
- Keep history, links between issues, comments, attachments, labels and assignees intact wherever the platforms allow.
- Run trial migrations, reconcile the counts, fix problems and carry out the final cutover.
- Document the process, the mapping and any known limitations, and hand them over to the client.
Required Qualifications
- Has done this before: hands-on experience migrating ZenHub projects to Jira Cloud. We need someone who has already delivered this, not someone learning it on the engagement.
- Strong knowledge of the ZenHub API (GraphQL and REST) and the GitHub API (REST and GraphQL).
- Strong knowledge of the Jira Cloud REST APIs and Jira MCP integrations.
- Advanced Python skills for scripting and automation.
- Comfortable using GitHub Copilot in day-to-day development.
- Solid understanding of Jira Cloud setup: schemes, workflows, custom fields and permissions.
- Able to work independently and explain technical trade-offs clearly to client stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience with other Atlassian Cloud migrations or with the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant.
- Familiarity with Jira automation rules or ScriptRunner for Cloud.
- Experience connecting Jira with GitHub.
