Lead legal strategy at the heart of Louisiana’s public health system! Serve the State and the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) in a highly responsible legal, consultative, administrative, and supervisory capacity as a Deputy General Counsel 1 in the LDH Bureau of Legal Services. Incumbent serves as chief legal counsel to the LDH Office of Behavioral Health, to the LDH Human Resources Section, and oversees and manages all activities of the regional attorneys. Performs highly professional and administrative duties and is responsible for providing highly technical legal direction, advice, assistance, consultation, representation. Must possess broad and intensive legal experience in all phases of the legal process regarding health law. Required to be admitted to all state courts in Louisiana, and be eligible to be admitted or admitted to practice in all federal courts within Louisiana. Shall also have a notarial commission to provide notary services to the department.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law plus five years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Serves as chief legal counsel to the LDH Office of Behavioral Health, providing legal direction, advice, consultation, and representation on complex health law matters.
- Serves as chief legal counsel to the LDH Human Resources Section, advising on legal issues and providing technical guidance related to personnel and employment matters.
- Oversees and manages the activities of regional attorneys, providing legal direction, guidance, and administrative oversight.
- Provides highly technical legal advice, assistance, consultation, and representation to LDH leadership and program areas on complex legal matters.
- Conducts legal research, analysis, and review involving all phases of the legal process, with emphasis on health law and matters affecting LDH operations.
- Represents the State and LDH in legal proceedings and other official matters before state and federal courts, as authorized.
- Provides notarial services for the Department and performs related legal and administrative duties in support of LDH’s mission.
Preferred Experience:
Incumbent is required to possess a current and valid license to practice law in Louisiana
