Reports to: Head of Audience/ Audience editor
Location: Highstreet Kensington, London

The Audience and Community Manager is the voice of the reader in the newsroom. They build relationships with audiences, foster community around our journalism and turn reader conversations into actionable editorial insight.

Working alongside the Audience Editor and Senior Social Manager, their focus will be on understanding how audiences are responding, what they care about and how we can deepen their connection to our journalism, alongside reporting and performance analysis.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor audience conversations across social media, newsletters, YouTube, Discord and other community platforms.
  • Identify audience interests, favourite topics and emerging trends.
  • Gather and share reader feedback, sentiment and questions with editorial teams.
  • Build and nurture engaged communities around our journalism.
  • Develop initiatives that increase audience loyalty, participation and trust.
  • Help teams understand what audiences want from newsletters, coverage and formats.
  • Translate audience signals and conversations into clear editorial recommendations.

Skills and experience required

Essential

  • Experience managing online communities and audience engagement programmes.
  • Strong understanding of social platforms, community spaces and audience behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to identify meaningful audience trends from qualitative and quantitative signals.
  • Strong editorial judgement and understanding of journalism.
  • Experience translating audience insight into practical recommendations.

Desirable

  • Experience with newsletters and audience development.
  • Knowledge of audience analytics tools.
  • Experience moderating communities and managing audience feedback.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Discord, YouTube, Reddit and emerging community channels.
