Open 66d
KPMG is one of the most trusted and respected global professional services firms. Through depth of expertise, clarity of insight and strength of purpose we help our clients solve complex challenges, steer change, strengthen, transition and grow. We are looking for talented people who share our purpose of inspiring confidence and empowering change for our clients, our people and our communities.
The Audit division of KPMG is a significant supplier of audit services to clients and audits many of New Zealand’s top companies, financial institutions and leading privately held entities. Our auditors combine extensive knowledge of a wide variety of businesses and sectors and a fresh approach to their work which includes an enhanced audit methodology that complies with International Auditing Standards.

The Opportunity:

  • This is a chance to step into a high-impact role working with some of New Zealand’s leading banks, insurance companies, funds and KiwiSaver providers.
  • Whether you’re an accomplished Manager or a seasoned Senior Manager, you’ll lead complex engagements, develop high-performing teams, and build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders. You’ll also help shape how we deliver audit by combining rigorous standards with smarter, modern ways of working.
  • Your level (Manager / Senior Manager) will be aligned to your experience, leadership depth and client portfolio exposure.

Day-to-Day You Will:

  • Lead end-to-end audit engagements across Financial Services, from planning and risk assessment through execution, review and finalisation.
  • Manage complex, higher-risk and non-routine audits, including technical accounting matters and judgement areas.
  • Partner with client leaders (CFOs, Finance Heads, Risk and Audit Committees) to deliver clear, timely outcomes and practical insights.
  • Identify audit and business risks and translate them into robust audit responses and value-adding recommendations.
  • Assess the effectiveness of processes and controls, including environments with heightened regulatory expectations.
  • Coach, mentor and develop teams to create a culture of quality, confidence and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain exceptional audit quality, ensuring effective application of KPMG methodology, auditing standards and GAAP/IFRS requirements.
  • Own client deliverables and engagement economics - scope, budgets, timelines, resourcing and stakeholder expectations.
  • Contribute at the appropriate level to client relationship management, account planning and proposal activity, with scope increasing based on experience and role level.
  • Play a broader leadership role as your level allows, including supporting practice initiatives, audit quality, people development and (at senior levels) market presence and thought leadership.

About You:

  • Member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) or relevant overseas professional body.
  • Strong Financial Services audit experience, preferably in banking and/or insurance.
  • 6+ years of post-qualification experience working to a senior level within a Big 4 environment.
  • Experience with KPMG auditing software, specifically KPMG Clara is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple engagements, delivering to time, quality and budget.
  • Strong technical and analytical capability, with the confidence to make sound judgements and communicate them clearly.
  • A collaborative leadership style and the ability to build meaningful relationships with clients, teams and Partners.
  • Experience with group reporting and accounting systems (advantageous).
  • Experience with ICFR / US SOX would be advantageous.
