through to full 12V electrical fit-outs and accessories.
About the Role
The Auto Electrician will be
responsible for the installation, testing, diagnosis, and repair of electrical
and electronic systems in caravans and recreational vehicles. Working as part
of a skilled workshop team, the successful candidate will handle 12V power
systems, solar and battery installations, lighting, appliance wiring, and
accessory fit-outs. This is a hands-on role focused entirely on caravans and
RVs.
Key Responsibilities
• Install, wire, and test 12V DC electrical systems in
caravans and recreational vehicles
• Design and install solar panel systems, MPPT solar
controllers, and lithium or AGM battery banks
• Install and commission DC-DC chargers, battery
management systems, and dual battery setups
• Wire and connect LED lighting systems including
interior lighting, external lights, and awning lighting
• Install caravan appliances and accessories including
air conditioners, hot water systems, and entertainment units
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults in caravans and
RVs using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
• Install and configure caravan accessories such as
reversing cameras, TPMS, GPS units, and satellite systems
• Carry out pre-delivery electrical checks and quality
inspections on completed caravan builds
• Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, schematics,
and manufacturer specifications
• Ensure all electrical work is carried out in accordance
with relevant Australian Standards
• Maintain accurate job records including work completed,
materials used, and time allocated
• Coordinate with coach builders and other workshop
trades to manage installation sequencing
Skills
• Proficiency in 12V DC automotive and recreational
vehicle electrical systems
• Ability to design and install off-grid solar power
systems including panels, controllers, and battery storage
• Competence reading and interpreting electrical wiring
diagrams and technical schematics
• Skilled in fault-finding and diagnostic testing using
multimeters, circuit testers, and diagnostic equipment
• Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards for
caravan and RV electrical installations
• Ability to install and configure DC-DC chargers, BMS
systems, and inverter units
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to clean,
safe, and compliant wiring practices
• Ability to work independently and manage workload
effectively within a busy workshop environment
Experience
• At least 1 year of demonstrated experience as a
qualified Auto Electrician, preferably in a caravan, RV, or marine environment
• Experience installing and commissioning solar power
systems and lithium or AGM battery banks in recreational vehicles
• Experience with 12V caravan or recreational vehicle
electrical fit-outs
• Experience diagnosing and repairing electrical faults
in caravans, camper trailers, or motorhomes
• Experience working from technical wiring diagrams and
build specifications
• Experience with caravan accessory installation
including reversing cameras, TPMS, GPS, and entertainment systems is desirable
Qualifications
• Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology (or
equivalent recognised qualification)
• Current driver's licence
