Summary

Automation engineer on Linedata's cloud operations team (posted via Gravitas Technology) in Mumbai, working UK-hours shift: converting manual ops into automated workflows using Terraform IaC, CI/CD pipelines, Python/PowerShell/Bash scripting, and AWS/Azure, monitoring and ITSM integrations.

Role : Automation Engineer

Location: Mumbai

Shift : UK(1-10pm)

Experience: 4-7 years in cloud operations, automation or DevOps engineering

Role Type : Individual Contributor

THE ROLE

Linedata provides critical financial software to well-known global banking and asset management institutions. The Linedata Information Technology team is strengthening its global cloud operations, automation and architecture capability.

Design, build and operate automation that removes manual effort, reduces risk and improves the speed and consistency of cloud operations within a DevOps-driven environment. This is a Cloud Operations role, not a traditional Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) position. The role converts recurring operational tasks and control requirements into secure, observable and maintainable workflows, working across operations, architecture, DevOps and service management. Terraform will be a key part of the automation strategy, supported by modern CI/CD and configuration management tooling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and prioritise automation opportunities using operational effort, failure demand, risk, control gaps and business value.
  • Build reusable automation for provisioning, configuration, patching, backup validation, remediation, tagging, reporting, evidence collection, access workflows and service operations.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (primarily Terraform) and configuration-as-code components using approved patterns, source control, peer review and automated testing.
  • Integrate automation with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps), IT service management tools, monitoring, security and collaboration tooling through supported APIs and event-driven patterns.
  • Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and operational automation using tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins and Azure DevOps.
  • Use configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform and scripting languages to enforce consistency across environments.
  • Apply secure engineering practices, including least privilege, secrets management, dependency control, logging, input validation and rollback or recovery design.
  • Ensure every production automation has clear ownership, documentation, monitoring, exception handling, support procedures and measurable outcomes.
  • Partner with operations teams to remove repetitive work while preserving appropriate human approval for high-risk or irreversible actions.
  • Create operational dashboards and evidence that show automation coverage, success rate, time saved, control performance and failure trends.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures and underlying platform issues; conduct root-cause analysis and improve reliability.
  • Contribute reusable patterns, coding standards and technical guidance to internal and outsourced DevOps teams.

MUST-HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 4-7 years of practical experience automating cloud or infrastructure operations.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS or Azure (experience in both is desirable but not mandatory).
  • Strong proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure-as-code; experience writing, maintaining and versioning Terraform modules.
  • Strong scripting or software engineering capability in Python, PowerShell, Bash or a comparable language.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and workflows at least one of: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
  • Working knowledge of Git-based source control and branching strategies.
  • Understanding of APIs, event-driven automation, observability and monitoring (e.g. CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Datadog, Grafana).
  • Familiarity with ITSM processes and tools (e.g. ServiceNow, Jira Service Management) for integrating automation with service operations.
  • Knowledge of secure secrets handling (e.g. HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, Azure Key Vault).

GOOD-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible.
  • Exposure to container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes / ECS / EKS / AKS).
  • Experience with both AWS and Azure cloud platforms.
  • Relevant cloud certification (e.g. AWS Solutions Architect Associate, Azure Administrator, Terraform Associate).
  • Relevant DevOps or automation certification (e.g. AWS DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).
  • Experience with policy-as-code tools (e.g. OPA, Sentinel, AWS Config Rules, Azure Policy).
  • Understanding of FinOps principles and cloud cost optimisation.

COMPETENCIES

  • Engineering discipline Readable code, tests, documentation, versioning and safe deployment.
  • Problem solving Strong problem decomposition and ability to simplify inconsistent manual processes before automating them.
  • Outcome focus Bias toward measurable outcomes rather than automation for its own sake.
  • Collaboration Collaborative working style with patience for operational users and a willingness to support what is built.
  • Continuous learning Curiosity, continuous learning and constructive challenge of inefficient or unsafe practice.
