We are looking for an Avian Ecologist to support our clients Forest & Wildland Program as it continues its important work in managing properties for forest, wildlife habitat, and water quality. This position will be Full-Time and On Site in Indianapolis, IN.
Only work authorizations that will not require sponsorship now or in the future will be considered.
What You’ll Do
Serve as the primary resource for district foresters as they update CFW/Forest Stewardship plans, ensuring every updated or new plan includes recommendations on species or multi-species management
Provide on-the-ground opportunities to meet with highly motivated landowners interested in enhancing bird habitats through active forest management programs
Collaborate with landowners to implement tailored forest management strategies that improve avian habitats
Support the review and update of Stewardship plans every seven years, incorporating the latest practices for managing forest, wildlife habitat, and water quality
Offer expertise and guidance on balancing property tax benefits with ecological stewardship goals
What You'll Need
Required:
Bachelor of Science or higher in Ecology, Zoology, or a related field
Knowledge of best practices to enhance avian habitats through active forest management
Experience in working with landowners on conservation or habitat improvement programs
Strong communication skills for engaging with stakeholders and presenting ecological recommendations
Physical Demands
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
Must be able to communicate with customers/team members over the phone and in person
Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

$33.34 per hourThe pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
