Avionics Engineer
SUMMARY
The Professional, Engineering - Avionics / Integrated Modular Avionics is responsible for supporting the design, development, integration, validation, and certification of highly integrated avionics control systems and distributed integrated modular architectures. This position works within the Avionics Center of Excellence to evaluate current and emerging flight deck technologies, define architecture requirements, support IMA application development and testing, and provide technical recommendations that enable efficient aircraft systems integration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop knowledge and technical expertise related to Highly Integrated Control Systems and Distributed Integrated Modular Architectures
- Support OEM requirement capture for IMA System Architecture, IMA Platforms, and Hosted Functions
- Define roles and responsibilities associated with the IMA System Integrator, IMA Application Provider, and IMA Platform Provider
- Apply DO-297 guidelines to support IMA development, safety, and certification plans in collaboration with internal stakeholders and suppliers
- Use integrated tool chains provided by the platform provider to build and test IMA applications using virtual test benches and hardware-in-the-loop environments
- Develop and implement methodologies and procedures to ensure architectures support safety, security, certification, and end-user requirements
- Define standards for validation, verification, and functional testing
- Collaborate with project leadership to communicate progress, design evolution, risks, issues, and roadblocks
- Provide technical direction and recommendations during design reviews covering hardware, software, data network architecture, and development processes
- Advise the organization on the impact of new regulations affecting avionics architecture
- Interface with advanced design groups, discipline knowledge owners, fellows, suppliers, and engineering stakeholders to support technology alignment and knowledge sharing
- Prepare technical documentation and reports capturing analyses, results, recommendations, and next steps
- Operate to defined schedule and cost objectives
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and interns
