Avionics Manager
What You'll Get to DoReporting to the Director of Maintenance, the Avionics Manager is responsible for the operation and control of the Avionics shop and all its programs and procedures. They will be hands-on providing supervision and ensuring accuracy of maintenance activities being carried out with an emphasis on safety and efficiency.
Operations:
Responsible for control of the Avionics Shop and procedures
Instructing subordinates in company policies, working methods, safe working practices, maintenance procedures and follow-up to ensure compliance with orders regulations and conformity to standards
Maintaining a close liaison with the Director of Maintenance, regarding scheduled maintenance for Avionics
Submitting reports to the Vice President Maintenance regarding the degree of efficiency and working conditions within the Avionics Shop
Studying material and component requirements and arranging for adequate inventories of stocks, spares, equipment, tools, etc., to meet varying demands of the Avionics Shop
Assisting with and supporting all policies and procedures in regard to the Calm Air SMS Program, as outlined in the Safety Management Manual, CAV-1001
Follow all procedures necessary for maintenance or repairs to the aircraft and equipment
Ensure all work carried out is properly documented in accordance with the Procedures manual
Provide the appropriate ACA release as required
Provide oversite and assist with repair/calibration of Avionics components
Must always comply with all safety regulations
Maintain all Calm Air assigned training required within job role
Ensure that all items of work are listed, recorded, and signed out on the appropriate work card
Perform work procedures, while ensuring that approved methods and materials are used in a safe, efficient, and economical manner
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Other duties as assigned
Financial:
Monitor overtime bi-weekly and report on reasons for overtime
Adhere to all financial internal controls
Assist with monitoring department manpower to ensure within budget and seek approval for replacement/increase
Engage in ongoing cost reduction analysis within your department
Safety & Leadership:
Change management leader – execute change while supporting employees through communication, listening and actioning
Strong leadership skills (coaching, mentoring, influencer)
Actively support the safety management system by following SMS processes and encouraging a safety reporting culture in your department
Promote occupational health and safety within your department, and participate in the development and monitoring of safety training
Proactively communicate hazards and SMS initiatives with your department
Embark on employment equity initiatives
Engaging with all employees to promote employment equity and encouraging employees to undertake the self-declaration survey updating as necessary
All levels of the organization share responsibility for human rights within the organization
Overseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiatives
Managers, Supervisors and Leads – have been delegated the authority and are responsible to the Department Head to actively identify hazards and deficiencies and report through the SMS (Safety Management System) Program reporting system. Communicate with all personnel within their respective department and other departments as required to maintain effective day to day activities. Ensure regulatory and company standards are maintained. Assist in the development and maintenance of company processes and procedures. (Quality Assurance activities)
Carry out their duties safely within regulatory and company standards, policies, processes, and procedures as trained. Use safety equipment (tools, Proper Protective Equipment etc.) as provided. Actively identify and report hazards and deficiencies (when in doubt report). Assist in development of company processes and procedures as required.
Skills & Experience We Value
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) an asset
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited aviation program
Must provide proof of valid Transport Canada issued AME–E license
Endorsements on ATR, Boeing, Airbus considered an asset
Basic Computer skills (word, excel, office)
Knowledge of an airline’s operations an asset
Ability to prioritize tasks
Must be able to work independently or in a team setting
Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure
Possess a valid driver’s license
Ability to lift 75lbs
Must be able to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Security Clearance qualification
Travel is required
Inuktitut and/or Inuinnaqtun language considered an asset
Preference given to Inuit Land Claims Beneficiaries
