AWS DevOps SME
Summary
Senior DevOps subject-matter expert who defines DevOps strategy and standards for AWS-hosted applications: owns enterprise CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform/CloudFormation), EKS/EKS container platforms with GitOps (ArgoCD), plus SRE observability and DevSecOps. Core stack: AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, Jenkins/GitLab CI, Python/Bash/Go.
Key Responsibilities
DevOps Strategy and Engineering Practices
• Define and drive DevOps strategy, standards, and tooling across cloud-hosted applications on AWS.
• Establish engineering practices for automation, release management, and continuous delivery across multiple product teams.
• Drive adoption of DevSecOps, GitOps, and platform-as-code practices.
CI/CD and Release Management
• Own the design and governance of enterprise CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild/CodeDeploy.
• Standardize deployment strategies such as blue-green, canary, and rolling deployments.
• Integrate automated testing, artifact management (Nexus, Artifactory, ECR), and quality gates into pipelines.
• Embed security scanning using SonarQube, Snyk, Trivy, Checkov, or similar tools.
Infrastructure as Code and Automation
• Set IaC standards and reusable module libraries using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Drive automation of environment provisioning, configuration (Ansible), and operational tasks using Python or Bash.
• Implement policy-as-code using AWS Config rules.
Containers and Orchestration
• Oversee containerized workloads on Amazon EKS and ECS, including cluster design, upgrades, scaling, and service mesh.
• Govern Helm chart standards and GitOps delivery with ArgoCD or Flux.
Reliability and Observability
• Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets; drive SRE practices across application teams.
• Establish observability standards using CloudWatch, X-Ray, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Datadog, or Dynatrace.
• Lead major incident response, root cause analysis, and post-mortems for application and pipeline failures.
Cloud Cost and Security in DevOps
• Embed cost awareness into pipelines and environments (ephemeral environments, auto-scaling, Spot usage).
• Ensure secrets management with AWS Secrets Manager, Parameter Store, or HashiCorp Vault.
Technical Skills Required
• 12–15 years in IT, with at least 8 years in DevOps or SRE and strong hands-on AWS experience.
• Expert-level experience with CI/CD tools and enterprise pipeline design.
• Deep expertise in Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes (EKS), Docker, Helm, and GitOps.
• Proficiency in Python, Bash, or Go.
• Strong knowledge of observability, SRE practices, and DevSecOps tooling.
• Solid Linux and networking fundamentals.
Good to Have
• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or Solutions Architect – Professional.
• CKA, CKAD, or HashiCorp Terraform Associate certification.
• Experience with serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions).
• Experience in regulated industries such as banking or financial services (MAS TRM awareness).
