Azure Cloud & DevOps Engineer
Summary
This role involves taking technical ownership of Azure cloud infrastructure, including managing Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, networking, and security. The engineer will collaborate with development teams and an MSP to automate processes and support the company's growth, with future opportunities to work on SRE automation and AI governance.
Salary: $110,000 – $140,000 per year
Are you an Azure Cloud or DevOps Engineer looking for a role where you can take genuine ownership of a cloud environment rather than owning just one small part of a much larger platform?
We're partnering with a growing Australian technology business looking for a hands-on Azure Cloud & DevOps Engineer to take ownership across its Azure infrastructure, Terraform, cloud security, networking and release processes.
You'll work closely with the existing software development team and external Managed Service Provider (MSP), becoming the internal technical owner for the cloud environment.
It's a broad, hands-on position with plenty of scope to make improvements, automate existing processes and influence how the environment evolves. As the role develops, you'll also gain exposure to SRE automation, AI governance and global cloud deployments.
What you'll be doing
Own and maintain the company's Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.
Maintain and improve an existing production Terraform codebase.
Review and remediate Azure security findings using tools such as Defender for Cloud and Azure Secure Score.
Manage Azure networking including VNets, peering, firewall rules, DNS and connectivity troubleshooting.
Improve cloud reliability, monitoring, backup and disaster recovery processes.
Perform and document backup restore testing and validate RPO/RTO requirements.
Own and improve release processes alongside the software development team.
Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines, including deployment automation, smoke testing, rollback processes and security scanning.
Use PowerShell, Python or Bash to automate infrastructure and operational tasks.
Work closely with the company's MSP, managing technical issues, escalations and SLA performance.
Support infrastructure deployments into new geographic regions as the business continues to grow.
Help pilot emerging SRE and AI-assisted operations tooling within Azure.
Over time, contribute to AI governance, LLM security guardrails and internal AI platform initiatives.
Support the ongoing maintenance of cloud security and SOC 2 compliance documentation.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone with approximately 3–6 years' experience across Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, SRE or Systems Engineering who is comfortable taking hands-on ownership.
You'll ideally have:
Strong hands-on Microsoft Azure experience within a production environment.
Commercial experience maintaining and deploying infrastructure using Terraform.
Strong cloud networking knowledge across VNets, peering, firewall rules, DNS and connectivity.
Experience with Azure cloud security and security posture management.
Hands-on experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or similar.
Experience with backup, disaster recovery and restore testing.
Scripting experience using PowerShell, Python or Bash.
An understanding of cloud monitoring, observability and incident troubleshooting.
Experience working alongside an MSP or external technology vendor would be beneficial.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
You don't need existing AI engineering experience. The AI governance and platform components are areas you'll have the opportunity to develop into as the role grows.
Why consider this opportunity?
This isn't a role where you'll be limited to maintaining one small component of a large cloud platform.
You'll have genuine ownership across Azure, infrastructure-as-code, security, networking, reliability and deployments, while working closely with an established application development team.
There's also a clear progression path toward a Senior-level position, with the opportunity to take greater responsibility for global infrastructure deployments, SRE automation and the organisation's emerging AI platform and governance capability.
If you're an Azure Cloud, Infrastructure or DevOps Engineer looking for broader ownership and the opportunity to grow with a scaling technology business, we'd be keen to hear from you.
