We are working with a leading London Market insurer looking for an experienced Azure Platform Engineer to deliver a new cloud sandbox platform.

This is a hands on engineering assignment focused on building a secure, automated Azure environment that allows development and technology teams to provision temporary infrastructure for testing, experimentation and proof of concept activities.

The platform architecture and strategy have already been defined. The successful contractor will take ownership of the technical implementation, automation and delivery through to operational handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and configure Azure infrastructure to support secure, isolated sandbox environments.
• Develop reusable Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks to automate infrastructure provisioning.
• Implement automated deployment workflows using GitHub Enterprise and GitHub Actions.
• Configure Azure networking, identity, access controls and security policies.
• Automate environment creation, shutdown, expiry and decommissioning.
• Implement Azure cost management, monitoring and governance controls.
• Support Microsoft Dev Box, Azure Virtual Desktop and other development environments where appropriate.
• Deliver technical documentation, operational runbooks and knowledge transfer.

Required Experience

• Strong commercial experience delivering Microsoft Azure infrastructure and platform solutions.
• Advanced Terraform skills, including Infrastructure as Code automation.
• Experience with GitHub Actions and automated infrastructure deployment.
• Strong Azure networking knowledge, including VNets, DNS, routing and firewall controls.
• Experience with Azure Policy, RBAC, Entra ID and subscription management.
• Proven experience building secure, automated cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to take ownership of technical delivery with minimal supervision.

Desirable: Azure Landing Zones, Microsoft Dev Box, Azure Virtual Desktop, Ansible, cloud security tooling and developer self service platforms.

Contract Details

Rate: £420 - £520 per day

IR35: Outside IR35

Duration: 6 months initial

Location: London (Hybrid)

This is a delivery focused assignment suited to a senior Azure Platform Engineer or Cloud DevOps Engineer with strong infrastructure automation experience.
