Sample Supports is seeking motivated and compassionate bachelor-level interns to join our Behavior and Supported Living Services programs. This internship provides hands-on experience supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in home and community settings. Interns work under the supervision of experienced professionals while developing skills in behavioral support, mentorship, community-based care, documentation, advocacy, and person-centered services.

This opportunity is ideal for students studying psychology, social work, human services, behavioral health, special education, counseling, or a related field.

What You’ll Be Doing

Under supervision, interns may:

• Provide direct support and mentorship to individuals receiving services
• Assist with implementing behavior support plans and individualized strategies
• Help individuals strengthen communication, coping, emotional-regulation, and independent living skills
• Support participation in recreational, educational, vocational, and community activities
• Model positive communication, healthy relationships, and appropriate boundaries
• Promote independence, personal choice, self-advocacy, and community inclusion
• Observe and report behavioral patterns, progress, and concerns
• Complete daily service notes and other required documentation
• Attend supervision sessions, team meetings, and required training
• Collaborate with behavior professionals, residential teams, families, and other interdisciplinary team members
• Follow crisis-prevention, de-escalation, and safety procedures when needed
• Maintain confidentiality and follow all professional, ethical, and agency expectations

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in psychology, social work, human services, behavioral health, special education, counseling, or a related field
• Interest in working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Dependable, professional, and open to feedback
• Ability to participate consistently in supervision and training
• Commitment to respectful, person-centered support
• Ability to complete required documentation and follow written plans

Additional Requirements

• Must successfully complete required background checks
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation when required by the assignment
• CPR and First Aid certification, which may be completed during the internship
• Mandatory Reporter training, which may be completed during the internship
• RBT certification preferred but not required
• Ability to meet the physical and safety requirements of the assigned internship duties
