💚 Why this role matters

We are looking for an experienced Back-End Developer (Progress/OpenEdge) in EST, PL or CZ to help develop, maintain and modernise the core systems that support PLG’s business operations across multiple markets.

This role is important because our Progress/OpenEdge applications sit behind business-critical processes and integrations. You will work closely with developers, analysts and other teams to ensure these systems remain stable, efficient and scalable while continuously improving how they support the business.

Beyond day-to-day development, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of our technology landscape, improving existing solutions, building reliable integrations and supporting the modernisation of legacy applications toward more modern architectures. It is a hands-on role where strong technical decisions, clean code and effective problem-solving have a direct impact on the reliability and future development of PLG’s platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Progress application development: Design, develop, test and deploy reliable business applications using Progress 4GL / OpenEdge, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable and aligned with PLG’s technical standards and business requirements.
  • Core system maintenance and improvement: Maintain and continuously improve existing Progress-based applications, identifying opportunities to enhance performance, stability, usability and long-term maintainability.
  • Business-critical integrations: Develop and maintain integrations between Progress applications and other internal or external systems using REST/SOAP APIs, XML, JSON and related integration technologies, ensuring reliable and consistent data flows.
  • Requirements into technical solutions: Work closely with business analysts, testers, developers and other stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into practical, efficient and sustainable technical solutions.
  • Code quality and development standards: Write clean, efficient and well-structured code, follow agreed development standards and best practices, and contribute to improving technical quality across the Progress application landscape.
  • Testing and release quality: Perform unit and integration testing, support user acceptance testing and help ensure that changes are thoroughly validated before deployment to production environments.
  • Troubleshooting and incident resolution: Investigate and resolve application defects, performance issues and production incidents, identifying root causes and implementing solutions that reduce the risk of recurring problems.
  • Database performance and data integrity: Work with Progress databases and data structures to support reliable application performance, including database optimisation, query efficiency, data modelling and troubleshooting.
  • Legacy modernisation: Contribute to the modernisation and evolution of existing Progress applications, including assessing legacy components, improving architecture and supporting migration toward more modern platforms and technologies where appropriate.
  • Technical documentation: Create and maintain clear technical documentation covering application logic, integrations, specifications, configuration, deployment and support procedures to strengthen knowledge sharing and system continuity.
  • Application support and continuity: Provide ongoing technical support for deployed solutions and help ensure the stability, availability and continuity of business-critical applications.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work collaboratively across development, product, testing, infrastructure and business teams, contributing technical expertise and supporting effective delivery of shared initiatives.
  • Technical ownership and continuous improvement: Take ownership of assigned development areas, proactively identify technical risks and improvement opportunities, and contribute to making PLG’s development processes and systems more efficient, resilient and future-ready.
  • Application support and continuity: Provide ongoing technical support for deployed solutions and help ensure the stability, availability and continuity of business-critical applications. This will require participating in on call duty a few days a month.
