A fast-growing, Toronto-based private equity firm is expanding its engineering team and is seeking a Junior Backend Engineer. The firm specializes in delivering structured solutions that accelerate liquidity across private equity portfolios.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain backend services and microservices supporting in-house private equity SaaS platforms and analytics tools.
- Develop scalable, reliable backend applications using Python and modern software engineering practices.
- Work closely with Product, Frontend, and Backend Engineering to design APIs, data flows, and technical solutions.
- Translate complex business and financial requirements into clean, maintainable backend services.
- Contribute to the architecture and development of new products and features in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment.
- Integrate APIs, data services, and emerging AI-driven capabilities into production applications.
- Troubleshoot, optimize, and continuously improve backend systems for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Have the opportunity to contribute across the technology stack and gain exposure to modern cloud, AI, and full-stack development practices.
Qualifications:
- 1–5 years of experience building production-grade software applications, ideally with a focus on backend development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Python and object-oriented programming.
- Experience building or contributing to microservices and RESTful APIs.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and clean code principles.
- Experience with databases and data-driven applications, ideally with SQL and/or NoSQL technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
- Experience at a reputable technology company or engineering-driven organization is preferred.
- Exposure to AI development tools and emerging technologies is preferred.
- Full-stack development experience is a nice-to-have.
