Back-End Software Engineer

Florida Housing Finance Corporation is recruiting for an experienced Back-End Software Engineer to join our .NET engineering team, focused on application logic, business rules, and features across our product portfolio. You will work alongside teammates covering infrastructure/cloud and UI/UX, with the flexibility to collaborate across the stack as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build application features and business logic using .NET 10 (C#), ASP.NET Core, and Razor Pages
  • Work with authentication and authorization patterns (OIDC / OAuth 2.0), including claims- and policy-based authorization in ASP.NET Core
  • Write semantic, structured application logs using standard .NET logging patterns (ILogger message templates and logging scopes) that support centralized log aggregation.
  • Implement caching strategies (in-memory and/or distributed) to improve performance and reduce database load
  • Work daily in Entity Framework Core against an evolving relational schema — querying, LINQ, and performance-aware data access, including reasoning about query performance at the SQL level
  • Write unit and integration tests (xUnit or NUnit, with a mocking framework)
  • Design, consume, and contribute to shared internal libraries used across multiple applications
  • Apply secure coding practices aligned with the OWASP Top 10 and applicable NIST security guidelines, including responsible handling of personally identifiable information (PII) and nonpublic financial information (NPI) in application code, logs, and error output
  • Communicate application configuration and environment variable requirements to the infrastructure team responsible for provisioning and deployment
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborate with teammates across the engineering team
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate delivery, applying sound engineering judgment to review and validate AI-suggested code
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application-level defects across environments

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience in C# and the .NET ecosystem
  • Must be willing and able to work in an open office environment

The ideal candidate will have strong skills, experience, and relevant expertise in:

  • C# and the .NET ecosystem — real depth in async/await, LINQ, dependency injection, and testable software design
  • Strong hands-on experience with ASP.NET Core and Razor Pages (or MVC/Minimal APIs)
  • Solid understanding of HTTP fundamentals and general API design principles
  • Working knowledge of authentication/authorization concepts (OIDC, OAuth 2.0)
  • Experience with Entity Framework Core (or a comparable ORM), including writing and reasoning about the performance of the underlying SQL
  • Experience with caching strategies in a .NET application (in-memory and/or distributed caching, cache invalidation trade-offs)
  • Experience implementing structured logging best practices in .NET (Microsoft.Extensions.Logging / ILogger) to ensure event properties and contextual scopes are cleanly captured.
  • Practical knowledge of secure coding practices (OWASP Top 10) and handling sensitive personal or financial data responsibly in application code and logs, consistent with applicable NIST security guidelines
  • Demonstrable experience writing unit and integration tests (xUnit or NUnit, plus a mocking framework such as Moq or NSubstitute)
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative pull request workflows

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Senior-level experience mentoring engineers or influencing application architecture decisions
  • Experience retrofitting test coverage onto legacy or lightly-tested codebases
  • Familiarity with Clean Architecture / layered application design (e.g., separated domain/application/infrastructure/presentation concerns)
  • Experience designing or maintaining shared/reusable component libraries consumed by multiple applications
  • Experience with configuration-driven or rules-engine-style system design
  • Familiarity with working alongside AI-assistant guidance/configuration systems (e.g., custom instructions or rules files) as part of a modern engineering workflow
  • Experience developing for public-sector or government digital services
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience

Tech Stack at a Glance:

  • .NET (C#) | ASP.NET Core | Entity Framework Core | SQL Server | Git | Azure cloud services | AI-assisted development tools
