Backend Data / AWS Engineer
Summary
Long-term contract role in London (hybrid, 2-3 days/week in office) owning a critical backend data layer: designing, securing and tuning NoSQL databases and building event-driven services on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS/EventBridge, Step Functions) using TypeScript/Node.js, Python or Java, with Terraform/CloudFormation/CDK and CloudWatch observability.
We're looking for a hands-on Backend Data / AWS professional to take ownership of a critical backend data layer supporting digital experiences, integrations and event-driven services. This is a long-term contract opportunity based in London, with hybrid working requiring 2-3 days per week in the office.
You'll be responsible for database design, performance, security, resilience and cost optimisation, while working closely with external suppliers to deliver reliable and well-observed production services.
Key Skills:- Strong production experience with NoSQL databases, including data modelling, indexing and performance tuning
- AWS Lambda and API Gateway
- SQS, SNS and EventBridge
- AWS services including Step Functions
- TypeScript/Node.js, Python or Java
- Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK
- CloudWatch monitoring, logging and observability
- Database resilience, backup, restore and recovery
- CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code
- Strong experience with integrations and event-driven services
