About Aevum AI
Aevum AI is an early-stage, founder-led technology company building a compliance SaaS platform for the EU AI Act.
The product automatically generates “Compliance Passports” - structured documentation packages that AI vendors and deployers need to demonstrate regulatory compliance. These packages may include Model Cards, Risk Assessments, RACI Matrices, Data Lineage Reports, Control Logs, and Executive Sign-off Declarations.
Aevum AI is currently building its core product toward pilot customers and seed funding, offering engineers the opportunity to shape the architecture and technical foundation of the platform from an early stage.
The Position
We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer to join Aevum AI and take ownership of the server-side architecture of the Compliance Passport platform.
In this role, you will design and build the backend API, data model, authorization structure, and core business logic that power the product. You will also contribute to AI/LLM integrations, data security, deployment, and overall system reliability.
You will work closely with the founder and a frontend counterpart to transform product requirements into a secure, reliable, and production-ready SaaS platform.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain the backend API and overall service architecture
- Build backend services using Python and FastAPI
- Own the Supabase PostgreSQL schema, data models, migrations, and database structure
- Design and implement Row-Level Security policies for secure tenant and user data isolation
- Build the core Compliance Passport generation logic
- Integrate AI and LLM APIs where required
- Implement secure Google OAuth authentication and authorization flows
- Design scalable and secure REST APIs for frontend and external integrations
- Maintain backend CI/CD processes and deployments on Railway
- Ensure data security, query performance, reliability, and system scalability
- Troubleshoot backend, database, authentication, and deployment issues
- Collaborate with the founder to translate business and compliance requirements into technical solutions
- Work closely with the frontend developer to define API contracts and product workflows
- Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering best practices
- Balance rapid MVP development with security and production-readiness
Must-Have
- Strong commercial backend development experience with Python
- Hands-on experience with FastAPI or a similar Python backend framework
- Strong experience designing and building production-ready backend APIs
- Deep understanding of relational databases and PostgreSQL
- Experience with database schema design, data modelling, indexing, and query optimization
- Experience implementing authorization and data-access policies
- Good understanding of PostgreSQL Row-Level Security or similar tenant-isolation approaches
- Experience deploying and operating backend services on Railway or a similar cloud PaaS
- Strong understanding of API design and security best practices
- Experience with authentication and authorization flows, including OAuth
- Ability to independently own backend architecture decisions
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and production deployments
- Strong understanding of system reliability, performance, and data security
- Ability to work effectively in a small, early-stage product team
- Clear written English and the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical founder
- Experience integrating LLM or AI APIs
- Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar AI platforms
- Experience with Supabase
- Strong production experience with PostgreSQL Row-Level Security
- Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms
- Experience with EU AI Act, RegTech, LegalTech, or compliance-related products
- Previous experience in an early-stage startup
- Experience building an MVP or backend platform from scratch
- Experience working with document-generation or workflow-based platforms
