Backend Developer

Summary

The Backend Engineer will design and maintain scalable, cloud-native microservices for banking applications using Kotlin or Java. The role involves working in cross-functional teams to manage event-driven systems, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines.

As a Backend Engineer, you will design, scale, and maintain high-availability cloud-native banking services in Hong Kong. Working within small, cross-functional teams, you will focus on continuous delivery, robust architecture, and production excellence.

Core Responsibilities
  • Service Engineering: Design, build, and maintain scalable backend microservices and RESTful APIs using Kotlin or Java.
  • Architecture & Data: Develop event-driven systems using event streams (e.g., Kafka) and relational databases.
  • Cloud & Operations: Deploy services via container orchestration on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) following a \"you build it, you run it\" DevOps philosophy.
  • Quality & Automation: Write clean, testable code with strong unit/integration test coverage and manage automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • Production Reliability: Monitor live systems, respond to operational incidents, and ensure system security and uptime.
Key Qualifications & Experience
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Kotlin or Java, distributed systems design, and microservices architecture.
  • Data & API Design: Proven experience with event-driven architecture, event streaming, relational databases, and backward-compatible API development.
  • Infrastructure & CI/CD: Hands-on experience with AWS (or similar cloud providers), containerization, orchestration, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Modern Tooling: Familiarity with AI-assisted software development workflows.
  • Soft Skills & Ownership: Strong cross-functional collaboration, active communication, and a results-oriented mindset with end-to-end ownership of production systems.
