Backend Developer - Rust/C++/Python etc..
Summary
Builds and operates backend media processing and packaging services for adaptive streaming, ensuring media reaches players via CDNs — using Rust, Python, and Java with C/C++ libraries on Google Kubernetes Engine. Fixed-term contract (Nov 2026–Apr 2027), remote within Sweden.
About the role
You will join the team that gets media to the player. We decide which files and formats each device receives, package them for adaptive streaming, and make sure they are in the right place on our CDNs before people press play.
This is a role for someone who thrives on variety, context switching, and building trusted relationships across engineering teams. You will need to be comfortable operating with autonomy, adapting to different team cultures, and influencing technical direction in codebases you did not originally build.
What you'll do
Design, develop, deploy, maintain, and support backend media processing and packaging services - with a sharp eye on performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Work primarily with Rust, Python, and Java, leveraging C/C++ libraries - all running smoothly in Google Kubernetes Engine.
Take operational ownership of your team’s services
Dive deep into media technologies and optimize video/audio processing
Collaborate with a dedicated team of media tech enthusiasts who think reading a 200-page ISO specification is a good day.
Who you are
You have hands-on experience building or operating media-delivery systems — segmented and adaptive streaming, packaging, transcoding. You understand codecs and containers in practice (e.g. H.264/HEVC/AV1, AAC; MP4/MPEG-TS, HLS/DASH).
You are proficient in a systems-level language such as Rust or C/C++ and you know how to make media processing fast and resource-efficient.
You have solid experience running backend services in production at scale.
You know what it takes to keep high-throughput pipelines healthy, observable, and cost-efficient in a cloud environment.
You are comfortable navigating unfamiliar codebases and large specifications, ramping up quickly in new domains, and contributing meaningfully without owning the full context from day one.
You collaborate well across teams, build trust quickly with new groups, and communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You are comfortable with ambiguity and can identify the most impactful work without always having it defined for you.
Start/End: 2026-11-16 to 2027-04-30
