Backend Engineer

Designs and implements distributed systems and ML prototypes for blockchain/crypto applications, using Rust, Python/PyTorch, and GCP.
About the Role
The role involves designing prototypes, analyzing solution trade-offs, formalizing technical decisions, and implementing novel research. The individual will collaborate closely with engineers and operators who have deep experience in building and shipping products across the ML and blockchain space.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnering with our product and research teams to design prototypes and iterate with the engineering team towards production-grade solutions.
- Reviewing code and technical proposals while providing constructive feedback to team members.
- Working in domains such as distributed/p2p systems, AI/ML, and blockchain/cryptocurrency.
- Leveraging tools and languages such as Python/PyTorch, Rust, and GCP.
- Building, testing, debugging, and deploying large-scale decentralized systems across hundreds of nodes.
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate will:
- Be fluent in systems languages such as Rust, C, C++, assembly languages, shell scripting, or DSLs.
- Possess expertise in one or more of the following: networking, distributed systems, storage, databases, operating systems, or runtimes, with the ability to read research papers in these fields and design systems based on them.
- Have experience in building and shipping production-level systems or applications, with emphasis on those involving ML or incentive design.
- Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills.
