Backend Engineer

Summary

Builds and maintains the backend infrastructure for an AI-powered platform serving private markets, focusing on permissions, auditability, and observability in both hosted and self-hosted environments.

About the Role

Join a small, high-caliber founding team in Berlin building core backend infrastructure for an AI-native operations platform targeting the private markets industry. The platform powers fund accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and treasury automation — with a deep focus on permissions, auditability, traceability, and observability across both hosted and self-hosted deployments.

This is an early engineering role with significant ownership and direct impact on the systems that define the product's foundation.

What You'll Do

  • Own and evolve backend infrastructure with a strong emphasis on permissions, auditability, traceability, and observability

  • Design and manage deployment architectures for both hosted and self-hosted environments using infrastructure-as-code tooling

  • Enhance system reliability, performance, and security in production environments

  • Partner closely with product and frontend teams to ship features while upholding quality standards

  • Drive AI-native development practices that enable rapid, high-quality releases

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 1–3 years of backend engineering experience, with a focus on permissions systems, auditability, traceability, and observability

  • Familiarity with distributed systems and modern observability toolchains (metrics, logs, tracing)

  • Comfortable working in a small founding team — strong ownership, initiative, and cross-functional coordination are essential

  • Eligible to work in Germany and willing to work on-site in Berlin

Tech Stack (familiarity a plus):

  • TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Prisma

  • Inngest, Mastra

  • React, Tailwind (for context)

Nice to Have:

  • Background in fintech, private markets, fund accounting, or adjacent regulated industries

  • Experience with enterprise security patterns: SSO, role-based access control, strict data isolation

  • Prior experience at companies building AI/LLM-powered workflows or agentic systems

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: €70,000 – €110,000 per year, depending on experience

  • Early-stage equity opportunity

  • High ownership and influence over architecture decisions at a foundational stage

Location

  • Berlin, Germany — on-site

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Germany; visa sponsorship is not available
