Backend Engineer - Index Data Processing

We are a fin-tech start-up with a successful suite of products, now ready to build the next big thing. A typical week may include debugging python, deploying infrastructure changes, talking to product early-adopters, and strategic planning with the team leads. Responsibilities

  • Working with product managers, researchers, and other engineers to define cloud-native backend systems and project requirements.

  • Designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend services with a strong focus on cloud architecture.

  • Writing clean, well-tested, and production-ready Python code (with opportunities to use Go or Rust where appropriate).

  • Deploying and operating production systems on AWS with an emphasis on reliability, security, and performance.

  • Using Infrastructure as Code to provision and manage cloud resources.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Independent and self-driven learner with a strong interest in containerised backend engineering.

  • Strong Python experience

  • Experience with Cloud-Native system design and hosting

  • Experience with debugging via observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Loki.

Desirables

  • Experience or interest in Go and/or Rust.

  • Experience with graph databases or knowledge graphs (e.g. Neptune, Neo4j, or graph modelling on Postgres).
