Backend engineering intern building scalable recommendation infrastructure using multi-modal content processing, vector retrieval, and RAG systems in Python/C++.
We are looking for talented individuals to join the ByteRec (Recommendation Architecture Middle‑Platform) Team for an internship starting in September 2025. The internship focuses on system architecture design in content understanding and protection, including designing and developing end‑to‑end massive multi‑modal content processing, retrieval, RAG, and sorting. Interns will support VikingDB, a cloud‑native RAG service, and contribute to high‑availability, scalability, and flexible abstraction of the platform.
Responsibilities- Build and iterate the multi‑modal content understanding pipeline, addressing service availability, throughput, storage bottlenecks, and improving feature development efficiency.
- Collaborate with the algorithm team to incorporate state‑of‑the‑art video representation models and large‑scale vector retrieval technologies, resolving engineering challenges.
- Extend and enrich multi‑modal vector computing components, optimize vector inference performance, and strengthen platform‑wide integration for stability, performance, and scalability.
- Undergraduate or postgraduate student currently pursuing a degree/master in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related technical major.
- Solid programming skills in Python/C++ with good design and coding style.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities, good communication and collaboration skills, and enthusiasm for tackling challenging problems.
- Experience with recommendation, search, or advertising systems, including recall, ranking or RAG.
- Basic machine‑learning knowledge and familiarity with mainstream frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow) or multi‑agent frameworks; experience in high‑performance computing or CUDA development is a plus.
Must commit to at least a three‑month internship term.
