BACKEND ENGINEER

Salary: RM 5,333 – RM 8,000 per month

Overview

We run a multi-tenant B2B platform: a dozen NestJS microservices behind gRPC and Kafka, PostgreSQL and Redis, deployed on AWS. Transaction volume is real-time and money-bearing. Our team uses AI coding tools heavily; you will spend more time designing, reviewing, and verifying than typing. We hire junior to senior into this role(preferably Mandarin for the China market project); level and package are set from the interview, not the CV.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services and APIs; define contracts (OpenAPI, proto, Kafka events) before implementation so the front-end, data, and QA teams can start the same day.

• Own correctness on wallet, payment, and settlement paths: transactions, idempotency, concurrency.

• Integrate third-party partner APIs: authentication schemes, signatures, callbacks, reconciliation.

• Review AI-generated and peer code critically.

• Write and maintain automated tests; keep CI green.

• Debug production issues using logs, metrics, and error monitoring.

• Participate in sprint planning and give honest estimates.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 2+ years with working experience with Node.js and TypeScript in production; NestJS or similar.

• Solid PostgreSQL: schema design, indexing, transactions, migrations.

• Has built REST APIs and consumed at least one of gRPC or a message queue.

• Daily use of AI coding assistants, with the discipline to review and test their output rather than trust it.

• Git, PR-based workflow, automated testing.

Nice to Have

• Multi-tenant systems, row-level security, or wallet/ledger systems.

• Kafka, Redis, AWS ECS, ClickHouse.

• Third-party API integrations with signature-based auth.

• Has worked in a team where AI tools produce a meaningful share of PRs (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot).
