Backend Engineer (Rust)
Summary
Build and maintain performance-critical Rust services and libraries, optimizing networking and I/O for low-latency systems that underpin Go-based infrastructure.
Work on the performance-critical parts of our stack -- infrastructure where latency, throughput and correctness really matter.
About The Role
We use Rust for the parts of the system where we can't afford to guess -- tight loops, network I/O, and components where predictable performance is the whole point. You'll work on the low-level foundations our Go services rely on, and help us build infrastructure we're proud of.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain performance-critical services and libraries in Rust
- Own networking, I/O and systems-level components
- Work closely with the Go backend team on shared infrastructure
- Identify and fix bottlenecks with rigour and measurement
- Set a high bar for correctness and safety across the codebase
What we're looking for
- 3+ years writing production Rust, or strong systems engineering in C++ or similar
- Solid understanding of memory management, concurrency and async I/O
- Experience designing for performance and correctness
- Ability to read and reason about low-level system behaviour
Nice to have
- Contributed to open-source Rust projects
- Experience with tokio, axum or similar async Rust ecosystems
