Backend Engineer

We're looking for strong Backend Engineers who care deeply about correctness, reliability, security, and thoughtful execution. Prior experience in fintech, payments, transactions, trading, or financial systems is strongly preferred. You should have strong engineering fundamentals and experience building production systems where failures can have significant customer, financial, or business impact.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems powering core WazirX products.
• Write production-grade, reliable code with a strong focus on edge cases and failure handling.
• Own features end-to-end from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and improvement.
• Collaborate with product, QA, infra, and security teams for reliable releases.
• Conduct code reviews focused on maintainability, quality, and risk reduction.
• Identify and mitigate potential issues before they impact users or funds.
• Improve system reliability, performance, scalability, and observability.

Requirements:

• BE/BTech or equivalent degree in a relevant technical field.
• 5-8 years of strong hands-on backend development experience.
• Strong backend engineering expertise in at least one modern programming language.
• Experience with MySQL and relational/non-relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with Docker.
• Experience writing and maintaining test cases for backend systems and APIs.
• Strong understanding of data structures, concurrency, system design, and debugging.
• Experience building and operating production systems where correctness and reliability are critical.
• Strong understanding of defensive programming, security, and failure handling.
• Experience with threat modeling and security architecture design/review.
• Strong ownership, accountability, and ability to communicate technical trade-offs.

Good to Have:

• Golang experience.
• CI/CD and production deployment experience.
• Experience in fintech, banking, payments, trading platforms, or exchanges.
• Experience with billing, accounting, settlement, ledger, or reconciliation systems.
• Distributed systems with strict SLA and uptime requirements.
• Experience in high-volume e-commerce or marketplace platforms.
• Crypto/blockchain, exchanges, wallets, custody, or Web3 exposure.
