Backend/Infrastructure engineer
Summary
Build and maintain Buildkite CI agent infrastructure and pipelines, scaling self-hosted fleets across Linux, macOS, and Windows to support thousands of engineers and hundreds of thousands of daily builds.
We are looking for an Backend/Infrastructure engineer to our amazing client in Stockholm.
Intro
Continuous Integration (CI) is at the core of the developer experience. As engineering organizations grow and support multiple target platforms (backend, web, Android, iOS), Buildkite orchestrates CI workflows across diverse environments. In a context where flexibility is essential, the goal is to provide reliable, self-hosted, and scalable agent fleets with well-designed pipelines that enable engineering teams to deliver functionality with both speed and confidence.
This role focuses on building, maintaining, and evolving Buildkite agent infrastructure, pipeline tooling, and the overall developer experience, providing engineers with a streamlined, automated, fast, and secure build platform at scale.
What you'll do
Execute and evolve the Buildkite CI strategy, scaling agent pools and pipelines to support thousands of engineers running hundreds of thousands of builds daily—and beyond.
Manage and improve self-hosted Buildkite agent fleets across Linux, macOS, and Windows, ensuring they remain healthy, up to date, and cost-efficient.
Build and maintain Buildkite-powered infrastructure, pipeline templates, and shared libraries that standardize how teams define and execute builds.
Drive automation and improvements for agent provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management across existing technology stacks.
Scale Buildkite infrastructure to support large monorepos with efficient pipeline splitting and artifact management.
Collaborate with cross-functional platform and engineering teams to design and deliver a best-in-class Buildkite-powered CI platform.
Help internal engineering teams adopt modern CI platform capabilities and migrate to improved workflows.

You have experience migrating microservices.
You are an experienced engineer familiar with Linux, macOS, Windows, and networking fundamentals.
You are an experienced Software Engineer with Java and Python.

You have experience deploying and implementing solutions in GCP, Azure, and/or AWS.
You believe in iteration and understand that finding the right solution is more important than finding the first solution.
You enjoy standardization and automation and are always looking for ways to improve the developer experience.
You have 4+ years of experience building and operating large-scale systems across multiple projects and teams, with a strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
You have preferably provisioned and managed macOS CI agents in previous roles.
You are a collaborative engineer who contributes to a healthy and inclusive team culture.
