Backend Software Engineer - Application Development

In this role you will design, build, and maintain high-performance backend services that power data-driven features at scale. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to translate customer problems into robust APIs and scalable systems. You’ll contribute across the product lifecycle, from design to production, and continuously improve reliability and performance. The role offers exposure to diverse technologies and potential frontline work with customers to gain firsthand insight into usage. You will shape how Palantir’s platforms enable impactful outcomes for partners.

• Architect, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services for operational data and AI systems
• Uphold coding standards through guidelines, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
• Build robust APIs and integrate with frontend and external systems
• Design efficient data structures and algorithms for large-scale data
• Optimize applications for speed and scalability through performance analysis
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve user workflows and product cohesion

• Experience designing and maintaining live backend systems
• Strong understanding of data structures, system architecture, and API development for microservices and distributed systems
• Engineering background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics or similar
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, Rust or similar
• Strong written and verbal communication and ability to iterate with teammates
