Backend Software Engineer (Java and Kotlin)
Summary
Backend engineer at Xebia (CEE) building and enhancing scalable Java/Kotlin microservices and REST APIs for a specialized automotive marketplace client. Day-to-day involves designing platform modules, collaborating with Product/Data/UX teams, and using AI-assisted dev tools like GitHub Copilot; mostly remote with occasional Warsaw office visits.

You will be:
- developing and enhancing scalable backend services for a specialized automotive marketplace,
- designing and developing microservices and REST APIs supporting key customer journeys,
- designing new modules and improving existing platform components,
- collaborating closely with Product Managers, Data Analysts, and UX Designers to translate business needs into technical solutions,
- ensuring high standards of code quality, testing, maintainability, and engineering best practices,
- using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or OpenCode to support software delivery.
Your profile:
- strong commercial experience with Java and Kotlin,
- hands-on experience with Spring Boot,
- practical experience designing and developing microservices architectures,
- experience building and maintaining backend services and REST APIs,
- strong focus on code quality, testing, and engineering best practices,
- ability to design new modules and improve existing systems,
- practical experience using AI-powered assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve productivity, quality, or decision-making in software delivery.
- ability to work effectively with Product, Data, and UX teams,
- Polish and English at B2 level,
- openness to occasional visits to the Warsaw office (1-2 days per quarter).
Work from the European Union region and a work permit are required.
Nice to have:
- experience with MongoDB and Spring Data MongoDB,
- experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP),
- basic knowledge of frontend or mobile development, such as Web, iOS, or Android.
- experience applying GenAI in a more structured way within the SDLC, including defined workflows, prompt patterns, or tool integrations embedded into daily work,
- interest in and familiarity with emerging AI-driven practices (e.g. agent-based workflows, automation patterns, AI-augmented development), with a willingness to explore and experiment beyond standard approaches.
