Summary

Back-end engineer at Statseeker (Techniche APAC) in Brisbane building a high-performance network performance monitoring platform. Day to day you design and develop C/C++ and Python services, APIs and Unix-level data processing, focusing on performance, scalability and reliability.

About us

Statseeker is a high-performance Network Performance Monitoring (NPM) platform trusted by organisations around the world, including Fortune 500 and S&P companies, private enterprises, and government organisations.

Built for speed and scale, Statseeker provides real-time visibility across large and complex networks, with industry leading polling and an architecture capable of monitoring entire networks from a minimal server footprint.

Our engineering team develops and maintains the software that powers the Statseeker platform, from high-performance data collection and processing through to APIs and services used by our user interface and integrations.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Back-End Software Engineer to join our engineering team in Brisbane.

You will work primarily on the back-end systems that power Statseeker, developing new capabilities while improving the performance, reliability and maintainability of our existing platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys solving challenging technical problems, working close to the operating system and network layer, and building software where performance and efficiency matter.

You will work closely with other back-end engineers, front-end developers and QA engineers to design, develop, test and deliver new functionality across the Statseeker product.

We encourage engineers to explore and adopt modern development practices and tooling, including AI-assisted development, where they improve productivity, code quality and maintainability.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain back-end functionality across the Statseeker platform.

  • Develop high-performance and scalable services.

  • Improve and modernise existing systems while maintaining the stability of a mature enterprise product.

  • Design and maintain APIs and interfaces between back-end and front-end systems.

  • Investigate and resolve complex performance, reliability and scalability issues.

  • Write maintainable, well-tested and well-documented software.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.

  • Work with engineering and product teams to understand requirements, estimate work and help shape technical solutions.

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our development, testing and delivery processes.

  • Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted software development tools, to improve engineering productivity and quality.

  • Consider security, performance and reliability throughout the software development lifecycle.

About you

You will ideally have:

  • 5+ years of commercial software development experience.

  • Strong C and/or C++ development skills.

  • Strong Python development skills.

  • Experience with Bash, sh or similar Unix shell scripting.

  • Strong experience working in Unix or Linux environments.

  • A solid understanding of software design, debugging and testing practices.

  • Experience diagnosing complex software and system-level problems.

  • An understanding of performance, scalability and security considerations in software development.

  • Experience with modern source control, code review, automated testing and CI/CD practices.

  • Experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Codex or similar.

  • A strong interest in continuously improving how software is designed, developed, tested and maintained.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • A practical, detail-oriented approach to problem solving.

  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a broader engineering team.

  • An interest in tackling technically challenging problems and continuously improving existing systems.

Experience with networking, network monitoring, FreeBSD or high-performance data processing would be highly regarded.
