Current activities are focused on reducing mortality and morbidity in the emergency room, pediatrics, maternity, and neonatology, while also ensuring responses to sexual and gender-based violence and disease outbreaks. In addition, MSF provides cross-departmental support through infection prevention and control, laboratory services, mental health services, Watsan, and logistics.

To strengthen the sustainability of the hospital’s infrastructure, MSF is solarizing the health facility. In line with this longer-term approach, MSF works alongside the Ministry of Health on the development of a Master Plan aimed at reinforcing the local health structure.

Objective of the position

MSF is looking for a senior architect to lead the finalization of the hospital master plan in Bambari, Central African Republic. This is a high-impact role focused on shaping the future technical development of a hospital in a complex humanitarian environment.

You will assess the existing situation, identify gaps and priorities, and translate operational and medical needs into a realistic, phased master plan. You will work in close collaboration with MSF teams, the Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders to help build alignment around a shared technical vision for the site.

This position requires a strong combination of architectural expertise, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management. • Coordinate the legal, administrative, financial, and technical dimensions of the project in line with MSF standards and procedures.
  • Monitor progress against objectives, timelines, and budget, and recommend adjustments when needed.
  • Work closely with field coordination and relevant HQ stakeholders to ensure alignment and decision-making.
  • Contribute to MSF’s engagement with the Ministry of Health, relevant authorities, contractors, and partner organizations on matters within the project scope. Support tendering, contracting, and subcontractor follow-up where relevant.
  • Ensure clear reporting, documentation, and preservation of project knowledge and decisions.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a senior architect who brings both solid technical expertise and the ability to work effectively in a demanding, multi-stakeholder environment. You are likely to be a strong fit if you have:

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience as an architect
  • Strong experience in hospital planning, healthcare infrastructure, or other complex technical building projects
  • The ability to transform functional and operational requirements into clear, feasible technical solutions
  • Proven experience leading or coordinating complex projects involving multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience in humanitarian settings, low-resource contexts, or other challenging operational environments is a strong asset
  • Previous MSF experience is an asset
  • English required
  • French required (minimum B1)

This role is especially suited to candidates who are motivated by meaningful technical work, can work with autonomy, and are able to move complex discussions towards practical outcomes.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong architectural and technical analysis skills
  • Leadership and coordination in complex project environments
  • Ability to identify needs and convert them into effective technical solutions
