Spire Norwich Hospital is looking for a dedicated and reliable Sterile Services Assistant to join our Theatre Department on a Bank basis.
Working as part of our Sterile Services Department (SSD), you'll play a crucial role in supporting safe and effective patient care by ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are cleaned, sterilised, tracked, and prepared for use. Every operation relies on the work carried out by our SSD team, making this an essential role within the hospital.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Clean, disinfect, sterilise, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment in line with national standards and hospital procedures.
- Check instrument sets before and after the decontamination process to ensure completeness and quality.
- Pack instruments, consumables, and linen ready for sterilisation.
- Maintain accurate instrument tracking records and documentation.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any faults or repair requirements.
- Operate decontamination and sterilisation equipment safely and effectively.
- Support compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Assist with stock management and department organisation.
- Undertake manual handling tasks and physical duties, including lifting and moving equipment where required.
Who we're looking for:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative when required.
- Understanding of the importance of cleanliness, safety, and quality standards.
- Physically capable of undertaking manual handling and lifting duties
- Certificate in Decontamination or NVQ Level 3 in Decontamination.
- Previous experience within a Sterile Services, Theatre, Healthcare, or Clinical Support environment.
- Knowledge of:
- Infection prevention and control
- Aseptic techniques
- Sterile packing procedures
- Surgical instruments and equipment
- SSD machinery and processes
- Relevant quality and ISO standards
