Our Exploration division is growing, and we are looking for a US Regional Exploration Safety, Health & Security Specialist to join our team! The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing, governing, and driving continuous improvement in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental, and Community (SHEC) policies, standards, and management systems for exploration activities across the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure effective implementation of integrated SHEC programs.
  • Partners with Exploration leadership to proactively manage critical risks, strengthen safety culture, and reduce the likelihood of incidents with the objective of preventing fatalities and serious incidents, minimizing environmental impact or property damage, while fostering positive community relationships and protecting the Company’s License to Operate (LTO) across all U.S. exploration activities.
  • Ensure all U.S. exploration activities comply with corporate Safety and Health standards, as well as applicable federal, state, and local regulations (including OSHA, MSHA, and state-specific requirements).
  • Lead the implementation, governance, and continuous improvement of the Exploration Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
  • Lead a risk-based assurance program, including Management Assurance Reviews (MARs), internal audits, and field verification, to confirm critical controls and management system requirements are effectively implemented and sustained in the field.
  • Partner with leadership teams to operationalize fatal risk standards within day-to-day work.
  • Translate fatal risk requirements into practical field application, work routines, and supervisory expectations.
  • Support sites in implementing risk controls consistently and identifying barriers to effective execution.
  • Monitor implementation progress and provide practical support to close identified gaps.
  • Promote consistent application of fatal risk requirements across operating areas and functions.
  • Oversee the deployment and effectiveness of Life-Saving Commitments relevant to exploration and contractor activities.
  • Coach and develop Exploration leaders and supervisors to strengthen risk-based decision making, visible field leadership, quality safety interactions, and personal accountability for critical controls.
  • Ensure fit-for-purpose emergency preparedness and response arrangements are established for remote exploration activities, including credible emergency scenarios, communications, medical response, evacuation, rescue capability, and periodic drills/exercises.
  • Review, analyze, and report safety and health performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and the development and tracking of corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Lead occupational health programs, including industrial hygiene, health surveillance, fatigue management, and preventive health initiatives related to exploration.
  • Periodic health and safety improvements and audits of our internal health and safety policies across the business.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field - Or have College / professional certification with significant experience in Health and Safety required
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive Safety and Health experience within drilling, mining, mineral exploration, or a comparable high-risk industry, including demonstrated experience influencing senior operational leaders and contractors required.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting mineral exploration and/or remote field-based operations strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable U.S. Safety and Health regulatory frameworks, including OSHA, MSHA, and relevant state requirements required; knowledge of environmental regulatory interfaces preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, multidisciplinary teams, supervisors, and contractors required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and risk management skills required
  • High personal commitment to safety leadership and Barrick´s DNA values‑based performance.
  • Eligible to live and work in the USA required
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and interpreting English required
