Beam Instrumentation Physicist

You will design, develop, implement, and maintain beam instrumentation computer systems, electronic control and monitoring systems, RF interface components, and laser control subsystems. You will improve instrumentation performance, support accelerator operations, conduct beam studies, publish research results, and ensure ESH&Q compliance.

Responsibilities

• Support operation and maintain ownership of beam instrumentation hardware, firmware, and software
• Develop and implement instrumentation upgrades and new systems
• Develop beam study plans to improve accelerator instrumentation performance
• Participate in accelerator shifts and provide operational support
• Publish results in technical notes, proceedings, and journals
• Contribute to goal-setting, resource planning, and policy development
• Coordinate graduate student work
• Ensure compliance with ESH&Q and ISMS requirements

Requirements

• PhD in accelerator science or a related discipline, or an MS in physics or a related discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience
• At least 2 years of relevant technical experience with accelerator systems
• Knowledge of beam instrumentation, accelerator physics, or similar instrumentation
• Software development experience
• Working knowledge of electronics hardware
• Ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge
• Ability to complete a federal background investigation
