Behavioral Health Technician

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides critical, front-line supervision and therapeutic support to residents within our 24-hour residential program. Working under the guidance of our clinical leadership, the BHT monitors resident behavior, implements daily facility structures, facilitates evidence-based curriculum activities, and provides the accountability and encouragement our clients need to achieve sustainable recovery.


Core Responsibilities


  • Milieu Supervision: Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive therapeutic environment for adult men in recovery.
  • Observation & Documentation: Monitor resident activities, track behavioral changes, and document progress notes accurately within the electronic health record system.
  • Program Implementation: Support the daily schedule by co-facilitating life-skills groups, recreational activities, and recovery exercises.
  • De-escalation & Crisis Management: Use trauma-informed care and verbal de-escalation techniques to handle emotional or behavioral challenges safely.
  • Shift Accountability: Conduct routine facility rounds, manage sign-ins/outs, supervise meal periods, and coordinate client transportation if required.
  • Collaborative Care: Partner closely with our case managers, nursing staff, and clinical directors to ensure consistent adherence to individual treatment plans.


Qualifications & Requirements


  • Age & Identity: Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Clearance: Must possess a valid Arizona Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (or be able to pass the background check to obtain one).
  • Certifications: Current in-person CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related behavioral science is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 1+ years of experience working in a behavioral health residential facility (BHRF), substance abuse treatment program, or transitional housing setting is preferred.
  • Core Skills: Active listening, strong personal boundaries, non-judgmental communication, and basic computer proficiency for client charting.
