We are seeking a BI & AI Analyst to join our growing Business Intelligence team in Christchurch on a 24-month graduate programme. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career analyst to build real-world skills in a well-established precision engineering business that is embedding data — and increasingly AI — into every decision from the factory floor to the boardroom.
The successful applicant will be employed on a full-time, fixed-term basis for 24 months, reporting to the BI Manager.
The Opportunity
HamiltonJet's BI & Data Strategy turns data into direction, making our data reliable, trusted, and accessible, and delivered through four pillars: Data Champions, Analytics, Master Data, and Governance. As our BI & AI Analyst, you will get hands-on across all four pillars — building analytical outputs, exploring how AI can add value, and learning what it takes to turn raw data into trusted insight.
This is a learning-focused, hands-on role designed to grow your technical and analytical capability over two years. You will be supported and mentored by an experienced BI team while doing genuine work that matters to the business. Your responsibilities will grow over time and will include:
Building, maintaining, and improving dashboards and reports (for example in Tableau) that answer real business questions across supply chain, manufacturing, and the wider business.
Querying, transforming, and analysing data from Snowflake and other sources to surface trends, patterns, and insights.
Exploring and prototyping AI, machine learning, and generative AI approaches to automate analysis, speed up reporting, and augment BI outputs — and helping the team understand where they add real value.
Supporting master data validation cycles, helping track and resolve data quality issues.
Contributing to governance by keeping documentation current, following sign-off processes, and applying standards consistently.
Supporting the Data Champions network and learning from Measure Owners and Data Champions across supply chain and manufacturing.
Helping gather requirements, translating business questions into analytical outputs, and confirming outputs answer the question that was asked.
Assisting with the trialling of new BI tools, prototypes, and reports, and capturing user feedback in a structured way.
Presenting findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
About You
This is a graduate-level role, so we care more about potential, curiosity, and attitude than years of experience. To be successful, you will likely have:
A recent or upcoming qualification in a relevant field — such as data science, analytics, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, information systems, or similar.
Some exposure to working with data through study, projects, internships, or personal interest — for example SQL, Python, R, or tools like Tableau or Power BI (nice to have, not essential).
Genuine curiosity about AI and a keenness to explore how it can be applied to real business problems.
A strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, with good attention to detail.
Clear communication skills and the confidence to ask questions and share what you find.
An eagerness to learn, take feedback, and grow over the course of the programme.
An interest in supply chain, manufacturing, or engineering (a plus, not a requirement).
A sound commitment to data security and privacy practices.
Familiarity with BI and data platforms such as Tableau and Snowflake, or any hands-on experience with AI or machine learning, would be highly regarded — but full training and support will be provided.
