BI Analyst

Summary

The BI Analyst will own the end-to-end analytics process, from gathering stakeholder requirements to building data models in Databricks and creating visualizations in Power BI. The role involves migrating existing reports from Tableau to Power BI and designing semantic layers to support self-serve reporting.

About the Role:

Talent Insights is partnering with a well-known brand as they uplift their analytics function and push the business towards self-serve reporting.

This isn't a pure dashboard-building role, and it isn't a pure data engineering role - it's both. We're looking for someone who can sit down with a stakeholder, translate what they actually need into a technical solution, build the underlying data model in Databricks and SQL, validate that the data is fit for purpose, and then bring it to life in Power BI.

One person owning data through to story, rather than a hand-off between a data person and a viz person.

You'll be joining a team mid-migration from Tableau to Power BI, so experience with both platforms is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and shape them into a data and visualisation solution
  • Build and maintain data models and semantic layers in Databricks, using SQL (Python a plus)
  • Validate and quality-check data to confirm it's fit for purpose before it reaches a dashboard
  • Design and build semantic models that support the business's shift towards self-serve reporting
  • Build Power BI dashboards and reports that clearly and effectively tell the story behind the data
  • Support the ongoing migration of existing Tableau dashboards into Power BI
  • Work autonomously, taking ownership of problems end-to-end rather than waiting for direction
Skills & Experience
  • Must have: strong hands-on Databricks and SQL experience
  • Must have: deep, demonstrable Power BI development experience
  • Must have: solid working knowledge of Tableau (migration experience highly regarded)
  • Strong data modelling and semantic model design skills, ideally with self-serve reporting in mind
  • Python experience nice to have, not essential
  • Experience in telco is a bonus, but skillset matters more than industry background
  • Self-driven with strong stakeholder management - comfortable running requirements conversations and owning the outcome
  • A genuine passion for turning data into a clear, compelling story - not just building charts, but understanding what they need to show
  • Prior experience blending data engineering/modelling work with visualisation delivery (rather than working purely on one side of that line)
