Teamworking for the planet:

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero . So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. For our members, their regularly scheduled bill is often the most important communication they receive from us, letting them know what we are charging them and keeping them informed about their overall balance. It's also the vital first step to taking them on our collective journey to Net Zero: without building faith through accurate and timely energy billing, members are less likely to entrust us with the more complex, decarbonisation products designed to reduce household emissions.

This role in a nutshell:

The Billing Product Owner leads owners the end to end process of automated write offs for Ovo within the PAYM Revenue area. The role ensures customers are billed accurately and on time without heavy operational expenditure (FTE), while maintaining compliance with Ofgem regulations and backbilling rules to protect unbilled revenue and gross margins.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Analytics & Revenue Strategy: Serving as the key point of contact for PAYM revenue backbilling reporting, bulk fixes, and resolving issues related to unbilled revenue or leakage.
  • Data Visualisation & Process Automation: Creating data models, storage, pipelines, and schedules alongside building impactful business intelligence dashboards (Tableau/Looker) and applying AI/automation tools to improve operational efficiency.
  • Delivery & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Simplifying complex problems, documenting requirements, and working with stakeholders across product and business areas to prioritize and deliver initiatives without negatively impacting operations.
  • Leadership & Capability Building: Leading, mentoring, and coaching a team of specialists in data analytics, BigQuery, Dataform, and industry standards.

Systems: SQL, BigQuery, and Dataform for data manipulation, building data models, setting up pipelines and schedules, and coaching

You’ll be successful in this role if you…

  • Have significant experience in data analytics (SQL / BigQuery / Excel / Google sheets) and use data manipulation to produce workstreams, discover issues and to improve operational efficiency.
  • A solid understanding and experience of data sources, data organisation and storage, as well as knowledge of data engineering processes and experience using GitHub and dataform.
  • Experience building dashboards and data visualisation to support performance analysis, operations workstreams, decision making and identifying areas to reduce issues / reduce PAYM revenue leakage.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills - able to articulate results clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders.
  • Have proven experience balancing multiple priorities and dealing with ambiguity and to be able to adjust to changing circumstances.
  • Have a real passion for driving delivery through internal teams and third parties.
  • Experience in stakeholder management to gather requirements, communicate and deliver findings.
  • Have the curiosity to identify issues and use problem solving skills to determine a resolution.
  • Have experience developing and coaching specialists and experience teaching introductory data analysis techniques.
  • Comfortable at working at a highly detailed and strategic level whilst managing, organising, planning and communicating work with a team.
  • Have logical and creative thinking skills to identify issues; able to seek complex problems and delve into the details while thinking strategically.
  • Experienced in using planning & collaboration tools (JIRA, Trello).
  • Desire to learn or experience in programming for analytics, preferably in Python.
  • A solid understanding of regulated industry standards (Backbilling/Ofgem)
  • Experience making operational improvements on different billing systems
