Biological Science Technician (Plants)

You will serve as a Biological Science Technician (Plants) with National Park Service. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will be in non-pay status from the end of January to mid-February and will be in a pay status for the remainder of the year.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Obtain Arizona Pesticide Applicators License and conduct and lead field crew in all aspects of integrative pest management (botanical and animals) Monitor, manage, research vegetation and wildlife following written protocols. Collect and manage data using multiple devices (GPS, tablets, trail cameras, etc) and software (GIS, photo processing, Microsoft Office suite). Perform quality control on data. Compile reports and presentations on surveys, research, and management work. Communicate clearly intra and inter agency, and with NGOs and the public. Plan field operations, train and lead field crews in monitoring and assessment protocols and safe work operations. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Pay will vary based on grade level for which you're selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service); with few exceptions as outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal civilian employees applying for reinstatement who have had a break in service of less than one year, as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointments. Time-in-grade does not apply to new excepted service appointments. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Must have a current or obtain within 7 days a valid driver's license and maintain throughout employment. You are required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority.
