Board Relations Manager

As the Board Relations Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the operations and governance of the PPPSW and PPAFSW Boards of Directors, ensuring board leaders and members are equipped to effectively advance the organizations' strategic priorities.

Working closely with the President/CEO, VP of External Affairs, Board Chairs, Committee Chairs, and senior staff, you will coordinate board and committee activities, manage governance processes, facilitate board engagement, and serve as a trusted liaison between board leadership and the organization.

Schedule: This is a full-time, non-exempt position scheduled for 30 hours per week with a hybrid work environment. The position is benefits eligible and may require occasional evening and weekend hours to support Board meetings, retreats, and special events.

In this role, you'll get to:

  • On behalf of the President/CEO, build relationships with Board members to ensure their talents and skills are being well utilized and that they are continually engaged in the mission of Planned Parenthood to personalize the Board experience.
  • Manage the timeline for key Board actions, both as a group and on an individual level.
  • Support day-to-day Board operations for both the c3 and c4 Boards, including:
  • Provide support and input to CEO, Board Chairs, and Director of Executive and Board Affairs in setting Board priorities, issues discussions, timelines, etc.
  • Attend, participate, and manage resources at quarterly Board meetings and other Board committee meetings as needed, ensuring an exemplary meeting experience.
  • Manage logistical arrangements for BOD, including the BOD calendar, agendas, quarterly meetings, committee meetings, conferences, and special events, as needed.
  • Serve as primary contact for Board leaders and members for information, support, or assistance in their role.
  • Manage daily on-going Board communication and member experience, including drafting emails and reminders on behalf of Board Affairs to the BOD and individual members.
  • Manage, create, and reconcile monthly expense reports and budget for Board Affairs.
  • Monitor relationships between Board members and their concerns by addressing issues immediately and informing the CEO, Chair of Board, and Director of Executive and Board Affairs.
  • In conjunction with the VP of External Affairs, Senior Director of Public Affairs, and External Affairs Operations Manager, provide support for c4 board as needed.
  • Manages daily systems and structures to support smooth Board operations (e.g. Policies and Procedures manuals, standardized letters and processes, master calendars).
  • Maintain accurate and current Board records and files for on-going operations and historical data.
  • Ensure bylaws, annual plan goals, Board policy requirements, and PPFA accreditation standards are met in conjunction with the Director of Executive and Board Affairs.
  • Manage and maintain Board website, technology, training, tools, and content for the Board.
  • Develop and maintain exceptional relationships with agency directors, management team, staff, volunteers, donors and other external clients to the fullest degree possible.
  • Support Board Orientation and Board development opportunities, staying current with Board management and organizational trends, and providing focused support during members’ first year, in conjunction with the Director of Executive Office and Board Affairs.
  • Manage and maintain Board surveys and evaluations.
  • Maintain a vibrant Board Alumni program, including recognition activities for outgoing board members and on-going opportunities for involvement for former members.
  • Responsible for the support of Board development, cultivation, and education, in association with the Director of Executive and Board Affairs.
  • Attend, participate, and provide insight on behalf of Board Affairs at various internal group meetings and act as a liaison for the Director of Executive and Board Affairs and the President/CEO.
  • In support of PPPSW’s Just Culture Philosophy, identify and report errors, near misses, and employee, patient and customer safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • To support risk and quality management by proactively communicating identified risks to supervisor in order to minimize risk when possible.
  • Comply with PPPSWs Code of Conduct and maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and to act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience - Required
  • 4+ years of experience supporting a Board of Directors (BOD), executive leadership, and key stakeholders - Required
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating board governance functions, including meeting management, bylaws, policies, and governance best practices - Required
  • 2+ years of experience supporting Director-, Vice President-, and/or C-level leaders, with a strong emphasis on meeting coordination, event planning, and executive support - Required
  • Strong organizational, project management, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines - Required
  • Experience supporting a Board Affairs, Executive Affairs, or Governance function within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization - Preferred
