Boarding Executive (Pastoral & Operations)

Summary

Oversee student well-being, discipline, and daily boarding operations in a Singapore school, fostering a safe and inclusive community through mentoring, events, and administrative duties.

Job Purpose

The Boarding Executive plays an important role in creating a safe, caring and vibrant community within the boarding school. The role works closely with the boarding management team, school personnel, parents and other stakeholders to support students’ well-being and discipline and contribute to their holistic development.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Care & Development

  • Support student in adjusting to boarding life, particularly international boarders.

  • Promote self-discipline, personal responsibility, independence and effective time management among boarders.

  • Provide care and guidance to nurture students' social and emotional growth.

  • Foster an inclusive and respectful boarding culture where students feel safe and supported.

  • Equip students with essential life skills, including communication, conflict resolution, decision making and communal living.

  • Engage boarders through regular interactions, mentoring, programmes and activities to cultivate a sense of belonging.

  • Maintain discipline and uphold boarding school rules, routines and expectations in a firm, fair and consistent manner.

  • Work with students, parents, school, Boarding Mentors and school personnel on student care and disciplinary matters.

  • Plan and implement boarding programmes and major events, support student leadership, encourage participation and community building, and oversee programme administration and evaluation.

2. Daily Boarding Operations

  • Build trusting relationships with students and address their concerns.

  • Conduct attendance checks and follow up promptly on unaccounted-for boarders.

  • Manage reception and front-desk duties as required, including attending to visitors, calls and enquiries.

  • Respond appropriately to medical situations, emergencies and other critical incidents.

  • Provide basic first aid within the staff member’s level of training and arrange further medical attention when necessary.

  • Conduct regular room, hygiene and communal-area inspections and follow up on identified concerns.

  • Coordinate with facilities, security, housekeeping, catering and other operational teams where necessary.

  • Provide operational support based on the duties rostered which may include evening and night shifts, weekends, school holidays and public holidays.

3. Additional Responsibilities

  • Lead selected projects, programmes, and other non-pastoral areas of boarding operations.

  • Review operational procedures and recommend improvements to strengthen student care, efficiency and accountability.

  • Assist the Reporting Officer in reviewing trends, reports and student data to identify areas requiring intervention.

  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Reporting Officer in support of boarding school operations.

Requirements

  • A Diploma from a recognised tertiary institution

  • Relevant experience in boarding services, youth development, education, facilitation, counselling or similar environment is advantageous.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to build rapport with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) and Mandarin (spoken) to communicate effectively with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.

  • Organised, detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple duties and maintain accurate records.

  • Demonstrates empathy, emotional maturity, sound judgement and the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within other teams.

  • Willing and able to reside on campus and work shifts, including nights, weekends, school holidays and public holidays.
