Bottoming Operator
Position summary
Run the bottoming operations around the welt: welt beating, shank and filler, cork bed, sole lay, sole press and outsole stitch.
Essential functions
- Beat and level the welt after inseaming.
- Set the shank, lay the filler and build the cork bed to the specification for the last.
- Cement, position and press the outsole. Hold alignment to the welt line and to the mate.
- Operate the outsole stitcher where the style calls for a stitched outsole.
- Inspect for sole alignment, gaps at the waist, and adhesion at the toe and heel.
- Cross-train toward inseaming and toward the Goodyear stitcher as your capability allows.
